Upstate Physical Therapy Club plans second annual ‘Move 5K’

SUNY Upstate Physical Therapy 5K Move AlongStudents in the Upstate Physical Therapy Club are readying for the second annual “Move 5K” run-walk-wheelchair race Sept. 23 at Green Lakes State Park in Fayetteville.

Students in our DPT program helped launch the inaugural event last fall, along with Move Along Inc., a Central New York organization that promotes opportunities for individuals with physical challenges to participate in athletic and recreational programs.

In addition to the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) running and wheelchair events, there’s a shorter fun run for kids. The event is a fundraiser for the Upstate Physical Therapy Club and Move Along Inc., which emphasizes physical and cognitive growth through programs such as wheelchair basketball and adaptive cycling and ice hockey.

The 5K run/walk at Green Lakes includes park trails, while the wheelchair event takes place on roads within the park. The wheelchair course has been modified from last year, with fewer steep grades.

Registration information will be announced soon. Volunteers on the day of the event are welcome. Contact students in Upstate’s Physical Therapy Club for details.
