Mobile technology- help or hindrance to patient care?
Monday, March 26th, 2012Dr. John Halamka, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Chief Information Officer, has been issuing a warning: mobile technology may distract doctors from patient care.
While many physicians reap the benefits of quick access to health information at the bedside, the following article focuses on distractions caused by use of personal mobile devices. To prevent negligence or life-threatening situations that may arise from a mobile distraction, Dr. Halamka has implemented policies “advising doctors on how to minimize distraction on their mobile devices” and is “experimenting with software products that separate the personal and professional functions of devices”.
