‘Healthy Eats’: What is the DASH diet?

Upstate University Hospital registered dietitian Maureen Franklin, RD, explains the DASH diet – short for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension – an eating plan designed to lower sodium intake which helps to lower your blood pressure.  The heart-healthy diet focuses on eating foods that are low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and increasing foods rich in nutrients, which can often lead to weight loss.
