Jeremy M Shefner, MD, PhDJeremy Shefner, MD, PhD, professor and chair of Neurology at Upstate Medical University, talks about amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. Upstate’s Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Research and Treatment Center, which works closely with the Association’s Upstate New York Chapter, provides multidisciplinary care for people with ALS and conducts clinical trials on experimental therapies for ALS.  Upstate Medical University is one of the country’s leading clinical research sites for ALS, and is currently participating in several national and international trials.
