Upstate University Hospital and the national organization WomenHeart are hosting Central NY WomenHeart—free monthly meetings that serve as a support network for women who are living with heart disease.  Upstate’s Jamie Waterstripe RN and heart disease survivor Leisha Tedford MSW talk about the support group, held at Upstate’s OASIS/HealthLink Learning Center, 1 Telergy Parkway (6333 State Route 298) in East Syracuse. The public is invited to an Open House on Monday, July 30, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Brian Rieger PhDPsychologist Brian Rieger, director of Upstate’s Concussion Management Program, talks about the diagnosis and treatment of a concussion, defined as a mild traumatic brain injury that occurs when the normal functioning of the brain is disrupted by a blow or jolt to the head.  There is a new law in New York State that requires schools to develop a concussion team consisting of parents, school and medical providers, which is modeled after the REAP Concussion Management Program.
