Upstate Medical University completed a 2.3 million acquisition of the Harrison Outpatient Surgery Center on 12/22/2010. The facility, at 550 Harrison Street, near Interstate 81 has been renamed the Upstate Outpatient Surgery Center and opened for business on January 18, 2011. The 18,000 square foot facility contains six operating rooms, five private preoperative cubicles, and 21 recovery beds. The addition of this outpatient center will free up access to the hospital operating rooms for the more complex cases frequently seen in a level one trauma, academic medical facility. The center provides greater convenience for patients with the ease of close surface parking, and a one level building with simple way finding.
The center is staffed with experienced perioperative personnel who were retained from the prior ownership. Ear, nose and throat, gynecological, neurosurgical, orthopedic, podiatric, pain medicine, urological, and general surgical procedures can be accommodated at the center. Pediatric specialized anesthesia attendings provide services for the pediatric population. A physician’s lounge with comfortable chairs, computer access and a stocked beverage refrigerator has been added as an amenity for surgeons. The center plans to perform more than 5,000 outpatients annually.
